Simon J. A. Buczacki

Professor Simon J. A. Buczacki is an internationally recognized leader in colorectal cancer research and surgical sciences at the University of Oxford. He currently serves as the Richard Blackwell Pharsalia Professor of Colorectal Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences and as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals.

His research focuses on intestinal stem cell biology and the cellular mechanisms driving colorectal cancer development, with particular emphasis on quiescent cancer stem cells and their roles in tumor initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance. His pioneering work has significantly advanced translational strategies targeting cancer stem cells and contributed to shaping next-generation precision oncology approaches.

Prior to joining Oxford, Professor Buczacki served as a Group Leader at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and played a key role in interdisciplinary cancer research programs at the Cambridge Cancer Centre, fostering collaborations across stem cell biology, oncology, and translational medicine.

Through his leadership in both clinical practice and cutting-edge biomedical research, Professor Buczacki continues to advance global efforts in colorectal cancer innovation and translational cancer therapeutics.
