Biography

Da-Wei Wu, MD, PhD, is an attending physician in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, at Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan. He holds both medical and doctoral degrees and has extensive clinical experience in pulmonary medicine, with a particular focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, respiratory care, and environmental and occupational lung diseases.

Dr. Wu’s research integrates clinical respiratory medicine, environmental exposure assessment, precision health, and smart healthcare technologies. He leads the Smart COPD Outcome and Precision Evaluation (SCOPE) cohort, a longitudinal clinical cohort designed to investigate COPD phenotypes, disease trajectories, acute exacerbations, lung-function decline, and treatment outcomes. His current research combines clinical data with air-pollution exposure modelling, Geo-AI, urinary metabolites of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds, exhaled-breath VOC profiling, medical imaging, and molecular biomarkers.

He has published research on air pollution and chronic respiratory diseases, environmental and occupational exposures, COPD clinical outcomes, and heart-rate-variability biofeedback. He has also promoted an integrated Smart Lung Health Clinic that incorporates digital health tools, individualized environmental-risk assessment, patient education, and longitudinal follow-up into routine respiratory care.

In addition, Dr. Wu is actively engaged in sustainable healthcare and circular-economy initiatives, including the systematic collection, disassembly, analysis, and reuse of polypropylene inhaler packaging. His work aims to connect clinical innovation, environmental health, artificial intelligence, and green healthcare to improve respiratory outcomes while reducing the environmental footprint of medical care.
