I-Cheng Lu

Current Position: Dr. I-Cheng Lu, MD, PhD, currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the College of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University. Clinically, he holds the position of Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital and concurrently acts as the Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital.

Educational Background: Dr. Lu completed his entire medical and academic training at Kaohsiung Medical University, where he received his Bachelor of Medicine (MD) in 2000. Driven by a passion for advanced medical research, he later earned his Master's degree in 2005 and successfully obtained his PhD in Medicine in 2016.

Professional Experience: With over two decades of clinical experience in anesthesiology, Dr. Lu has established himself as a leading specialist in Taiwan. Beyond his roles within the KMU healthcare system, he is highly active in professional societies. He serves for the Taiwan Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia and the Taiwan Society of Airway Management.

Research Interests: Dr. Lu’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of clinical anesthesiology, patient safety, and medical monitoring technology. His focal areas include: Advanced intraoperative neuromonitoring during thyroid surgery; Multimodal analgesia and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) & Airway management and patient safety.

Representative Achievements: Dr. Lu has published numerous high-impact SCI papers in leading international journals. One of his most notable achievements is his pioneering work in translational research involving anesthesia and neural monitoring models. His doctoral research established robust experimental frameworks that successfully translated into clinical workflows, specifically improving the safety of thyroid surgeries by safeguarding vocal cord nerves through optimized anesthetic techniques.
