Biography

Young Jun Chai, MD, PhD, MBA, is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at Seoul National University (SNU) Boramae Medical Center and SNU College of Medicine, where he serves as the Associate Dean for Planning Affairs.

Dr. Chai earned his MD (2003), MS (2014), and PhD (2017) from SNU College of Medicine, and an MBA from Nanyang Technological University (2023). He joined the faculty at SNU Boramae Medical Center in 2014 and was appointed Full Professor in 2024.

A pioneer in endocrine surgery, Dr. Chai specializes in scarless Transoral Robotic Thyroidectomy (TORT), intraoperative neural monitoring, and integrating digital health technologies—including AI and augmented reality—into surgical practice. He co-developed the 3-port TORT approach, published over 160 SCIE-indexed papers.. He serves on key executive committees and editorial boards for leading international surgical societies.
